Review: Retro Luxe Lip Kits Matte Royal

A cheaper alternative to the Kylie lip Kits. Are they any good?

Makeup Revolution has released their Retro Luxe Lip Kits which are a dupe for the Kylie Jenner Lip Kits. The brand is a drug store one and is known for their eyeshadow palettes.

Makeup Revolution- Retro Luxe Lip Kit in Glory.

The liquid lipstick and the liner come in a black box, displaying the colour on a lip outline. However, the colour shown on the box is not how the actual shade turns out. The real shade is darker.

This applies to all of the colours, the colour shown on the box doesn’t match what actually comes inside. It is best to look at the testers to see the true colour.

The packaging on the liquid lipstick and liner are quite sturdy. The quality of the packaging matches the price.

Inside comes a liquid lipstick and matching lip liner.

The shade that I picked up is called Glory which is a very dark brown that almost looks black when applied to the lips. It is defiantly not what is advertised on the box.

For a person who likes to rock a dark lip, this is a good colour.

The lip liner and liquid lipstick are a good match to each other.

There are 8 colours in total: Echelon, Noble, Reign, Grandee, Magnificent, Regal, Royal and Glory.

The formula of the lip liner is very creamy. It applies on the lips very easily and comfortably unlike other lip liners that can be a bit drying and hard to apply. However, due to it being very creamy after almost every use it will need sharpening.

Moving on to the formula of the liquid lipstick. When you first apply it onto the lips it is isn’t bad. It does feel quite heavy on the lips. Also, it claims to dry to a matte finish, this isn’t quite the case. It is very sticky on the lips, even after waiting for a few minutes to dry.

Each lip kit cost £6.00 which is super affordable compared to other high-end liquid lipsticks.

Is it worth it?

Overall these are very disappointing. They are very sticky, don’t dry to a matte finish and feel very heavy on the lips. This is a problem many liquid lipsticks have and is very uncomfortable on the lips.

If you’re looking for a good liquid lipstick a better alternative would be the Barry M lip kits which are priced at £6.99. You could also go for the Lime Crime liquid lipsticks which are very comfortable on the lips and last a long time, although these are a bit more pricey at £15.00.
